People use "deep clean" and "regular clean" loosely, and it leads to mismatched expectations — you book a standard clean expecting spotless baseboards, or pay for a deep clean your home did not need. Here is the clear line between the two.
The short version: a standard clean keeps an already-clean home clean. A deep clean resets a home that has fallen behind or has never had a professional touch.
Standard cleaning: maintenance
A standard (or "maintenance") clean is the workhorse. It covers the surfaces and rooms you use every day and is designed to be repeated on a schedule — weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. It assumes the home is in reasonable shape and just needs to be kept that way.
- Kitchen: counters, sink, stovetop, exterior of appliances, floors
- Bathrooms: toilets, showers/tubs, sinks, mirrors, floors
- All rooms: dusting reachable surfaces, vacuuming, mopping, trash
- General tidying and wipe-downs of high-touch areas
Deep cleaning: the reset
A deep clean includes everything in a standard clean, plus the detail work that quietly builds up over months and that a maintenance visit is not scoped to handle. It takes longer and costs more because it genuinely reaches more of the home.
- Baseboards, door frames, and trim
- Inside appliances (oven and fridge on request)
- Light fixtures, ceiling fans, and vents
- Cabinet fronts, backsplashes, and detailed kitchen degreasing
- Grout, tile edges, and built-up soap scum
- Behind and under movable furniture where reachable
Which one do you need?
A quick way to decide:
- Choose a deep clean if: it has been 3+ months since a professional clean, you have never had one, you are prepping for guests or an event, or you are doing a seasonal reset.
- Choose a standard clean if: your home is already maintained and you just want to keep it that way, especially on a recurring schedule.

How often should you deep clean?
For most Portland homes on recurring maintenance, a deep clean once or twice a year is plenty — often in spring and before the holidays.
